Hockley county has been designated as Storm Ready by the Lubbock office of the National Weather Service. This is a result of much work in becoming prepared and ready for severe weather. The official ceremony was held March 21, 2023 at the Levelland Fire Deparetment which is also home of the county Emergency Operations Center. At the conclusion of the presentation, a SKYWARN spotter training was conducted by Justin Weaver, Meteorologist in Charge for the NWS office, Lubbock.
